Mangrove Planting Day

Company
To commemorate the International Day of Mangrove Plants, the Department of Lands, Energy, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development took part in planting 500 mangrove trees in Uyombo, Kilifi – North Sub- County. The goal of this project was to raise awareness about the crucial role mangroves play in combating climate change and supporting sustainable living practices.
Mangrove forests serve as natural carbon sinks, absorbing significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the air. In addition, the team educated local communities about the importance of preserving mangrove habitats and the significance of incorporating sustainable methods.
In the area, many households rely on traditional open fires for cooking, which release harmful emissions. To address this issue, the team introduced improved cook stoves – energy-efficient alternatives that reduce indoor air pollution.
By embracing cleaner cooking solutions, households not only contribute to environmental conservation but also enhance their own health and well-being.
The combined efforts of the Energy Directorate and CCAK demonstrate the impact of collective action in safeguarding our planet.
