The Department of Lands, Energy, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Directorate of Physical Planning is currently in the process of finalizing the local physical and land use development plans for the four urban centers of Jilore GIS, Shomela, and Sogorosa, in collaboration with the EU/FAO Digital Land Governance programme. This planning initiative, which began in 2019, is led by the County Physical Planning team, working alongside local leaders and respective area MCAs to engage the community in the planning process.
The primary objective of this exercise was to educate and engage the community on the significance of planning, as well validation of the existing local physical and land use development plans for the four trading centers. Residents were thoroughly briefed on how their respective trading centers would evolve once the plans were approved and executed. The community actively participated by providing input, particularly focusing on the planning of public utilities to drive development in their regions.
Notable attendees at the plan validation sessions included the area ward MCAs – Hon. Hamisi Jambo of Jilore Ward, Hon. Paul Charo of Magarini Ward, and Hon. Steven Mwaro of Gongoni Ward – as well as ward administrators and other officials.
This program aligns with Governor Gideon Mung’aro’s vision of ensuring equitable service delivery and development for all residents of Kilifi County. The success of this initiative was greatly facilitated by the support of FAO/EU funded Digital Land Governance programme.
